Stuffing Envelopes Yes,
You Can Make Money from Home Doing This |

|
There are all kinds of advertisements that say you
can earn money from home by stuffing envelopes. Most of
these ads involve earning income after you complete some mailings
and a product is sold through them, IF a product is sold, and you
as the stuffer/mailer pay for the postage, envelopes, etc. These ads are essentially scams and no way to make money.
But money can be made stuffing envelopes if you work for
yourself and contract with bulk mailing companies. These
are companies that are hired by businesses and
organizations that need large mailings, often
advertisements, sent out on their behalf because they do
not have the time or staff to put together a mailing
themselves. These bulk mailing companies often hire independent
contractors to do their envelope stuffing.
How to get started? You will first have to
set yourself up as a business, most likely as a sole
proprietorship. This is easy to do and usually
involves registering a business name ($20 or so) with the
state and opening a bank account under the business
name. Business cards are also a good idea (go here
for nearly free business cards) to show that you are a
professional who takes stuffing envelopes seriously and
completes projects on time.
Next, you will need to contact local companies that are in the
business of mailing out pieces of information. These can be
found in the yellow pages under "advertising
services," "mailing services,"
"advertising - direct mail," "advertising -
promotional products" and "printers." Some of
these companies will require that envelopes be stuffed on their
premises, but some will allow the work to be done off-site (i.e.,
at your home). And remember that not all companies will be
hiring; some will have in-house staffs, but do not get
discouraged. People do make money doing this kind of work.
Generally these mailing companies will hire your
services on a per piece basis, rather than by the hour or day, and the
going rate is around $15 to $20 per 1,000 envelopes stuffed and
sealed. A good stuffer can stuff and seal about 500
envelopes an hour; obviously, the faster you go, the more you can
make, and you will pick up speed the more envelopes you
stuff. You can also charge more if the envelopes have
more than one insert.
Mailing service companies are not the only ones
that need envelopes stuffed, either. Pizza businesses that
need to advertise in the neighborhood, insurance agents that need
to notify clients of policy changes and service companies
(housekeeping, repairmen, etc.) that need to stay in touch with
their clientele are a few examples of other kinds of businesses
that need envelopes stuffed and sealed (and possibly mailed).
Remember, you are offering a service that fills a
need. Sending out mailings is a tedious but necessary part
of nearly any company's marketing program; if you can provide a
professional service with on-time delivery at a reasonable cost,
businesses will want to hire you, and you are on your way to
part-time income doing work from home.
