Become a Relocation Consultant

Help Foreign Employees Get Settled in the U.S.

Relocation Assistance, Inc. (RAI) was founded in 1979 and works with major companies, including Ford Motor Company and United Technologies Corporation, to help their international employees (and their families) relocate to the U.S. and integrate into the local culture.   As the world grows smaller and more U.S. companies search overseas for new talent, a successful employee relocation process becomes more important because it reflects on the company doing the hiring.    RAI helps relocate 3,000 people a year to the U.S. and is accepting resumes from those who would like to become a part-time relocation consultant in their community.

RAI works to relocate international employees across the country, but these positions are not available in every town and city.   They are pay-for-service (independent contractor) jobs and entail helping new arrivals find housing, open a bank account, get a driver's license, find insurance and more.  It may also involve helping a spouse find a job.   Cultural issues such as language barriers, adapting to local customs and health care may also come into play.   New arrivals receive either a half-day, one day, or two days of accompanied assistance from a local consultant.

Qualifications for this job include having good communication skills, research abilities, working computer knowledge and some customer service experience.   Top candidates should be resourceful, knowledgeable about their local area and have a flexible schedule, as well as an interest in foreign cultures.  Consultants work from home and need a cell phone, reliable transportation and access to the Internet and email.  Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel is helpful.
