Edit the Work of
Others Edit
Fast |

Not everyone is a writer; sometimes it is easier
to critique the writings of others. Even better is getting
paid to do it. Edit Fast is a company that provides a
marketplace for authors to find editors to proofread and edit
their books, articles, documents and more.
Being accepted as an editor with Edit fast is not a
guarantee of a job, but it puts you and your experience
in front of writers who need help. To
apply as an editor/proofreader, the company requires
that you have a college degree from a recognized
university, an Internet connection and "computer
savvy." Helpful qualifications include
some experience or classes in proofreading, a degree in
English and specific knowledge in one of several fields
such as computers, medicine, literary works,
telecommunications, etc.
The interview process is handled online and
includes creating a resume (which requires a 1,300 word
description of your skills and experience and why a writer/client
would want to hire you as an editor), creating a web page through
Edit Fast's web site (this will be your sales tool and will
eventually be listed in the search engines) and completing three
editing tests (a total of 100 questions split into 3 timed
sessions). It may take up to two weeks to learn if you are
accepted as an Edit Fast editor.
When a client submits a document or other piece of
writing to Edit Fast for editing and/or proofreading, Edit Fast
will sort through its editors and send the job to whomever is best
qualified. If you receive notice of a job, it is your
responsibility to review the work that needs editing and then post
a price estimate for the client, which the client can then
accept or deny. If the client accepts the price, then he
pays Edit Fast directly once the job is finished, and Edit Fast
pays you. Each editor may establish his own pricing scale,
depending on the amount of editing required and how technical the
document is, but standard pricing is listed below. Keep in
mind, too, that Edit Fast takes a 40% cut of any revenue you
generate. This is their fee for acting as a middle man
marketplace, providing a web page, etc.
Documents up to 3,000 words = US $0.03 (three
cents) per word
Documents from 3,000 - 10,000 words = US $0.02 (two cents) per
word
Documents from 10,000 -50,000 words = US $0.015 (1.5 cents) per
word
Documents above 50,000 words will be dealt with on a project by
project basis.
Obviously, you will not get rich as an editor
and/or proofreader, but it is a way to earn some extra income
without having to actually write. Edit Fast will, however,
pay you to write articles about Edit Fast in a positive light
(these will eventually end up in the search engines and bring more
people to Edit Fast) if you are so inclined. You must be an
editor with Edit Fast to be eligible for this work, but if you
are, payment is $10 per 250 words that are written around a
particular keyword phrase.
