Websites across the Internet thrive on having
original content. Websites without new hourly, daily or
weekly content become stagnant and lose readers. Original
content also helps websites achieve desirable search engine
rankings. So, in short, original content on thousands of
topics is the necessary lifeblood of the world wide web.
And from where does all of this original
content come? Some websites have
writers on staff, but many sites download content from
online marketplaces where writers submit their articles
for the purpose of distributing them across the
web. These writers do this for a number of
reasons. One is to establish themselves as an
expert in their field. Another is to attract
people, through their articles, to their own
websites. The last reason may be the most popular,
and that is that they want to get paid for writing.
There are numerous ways to earn income by writing on the web,
but this one is for a reputable, popular website named Associated
Content (AC) that pays when it says it will and lets you publish
in one place, rather than having to search out various outlets for
your writing. You open a free account with Associated
Content, write articles about whatever you would like (they will
accept articles on nearly any topic) and then upload them to the
AC site. Website owners (webmasters) then come to Associated
Content and download articles as feeds (a way to syndicate content
- see here for an
explanation of feeds) onto their sites that need
content. Associated Content gets many, many
visitors a month and many, many people download its
articles. As with many things (see our Make
Money with Your Photographs article), volume matters.
The more articles, on a variety of topics, that you submit to the
site, the better your chance of having them downloaded by
webmasters. Articles do not have to be long; most AC
articles are between 500 to 1,000 words.
How do you earn money writing and submitting? Two
ways. First, you are paid according to the number of
pageviews your articles receive, meaning the number of times your
articles are viewed by readers of the websites that have
downloaded them. The current rate is $1.50 for every 1,000
pageviews. For example, if your articles are viewed 50,000
times, you will earn $75. The more you publish,
the more you earn, and once you have written an article, it
continues earning in perpetuity. If you have many articles
on AC and they are downloaded by popular websites, racking up
pageviews happens fairly easily (it helps to write about popular
topics, too, such as gardening, travel, etc.). Associated
Content also pays writers $3 to $20 upfront for articles that are
on the Calls for Content list, meaning articles for which there
has been a specific request from website owners.
Payments are made through Paypal and are sent every Monday,
Wednesday and Friday ($1.50 is the minimum you must have in your
account before you can be paid). You can keep an eye on how
many pageviews your articles are receiving, too. The
